Majorca Tourist Information
It’s certain that typical Majorcan cuisine is strongly linked to Mediterranean food and wine culture. However, the influx of tourists on the island due to the increase of Majorca hotels, has transformed traditional Mediterranean recipes into different tastes from all over the world.
The best idea is to move away from the tourist restaurants, stay in one of the local Majorca apartments and try to taste more authentically Majorcan dishes. The places where this heritage is still present today are called “cellers” which can be found in the buildings of ancient wine producers. In cellers you can taste the typical Majorcan food, including the soups, which are hot broths of meat and vegetables just waiting to be soaked up with slices of fresh, local bread. Recommended during the summer season is ‘trempò’, a classic vegetable salad, composed of tomatoes, red chilli, garlic, olives, vinegar and salt. It’s a very rich and nutritious dish, an ideal meal after a day out at sea.
